Senate audio stopped at midnight

We thought we had switched our encoders to the 24 hour schedule... but had not. Our audio stopped streaming at midnight on Tuesday and the Senate didn't adjourn until sometime close to 3 a.m. We're checking with the Missourinet newsroom to see if their reporter recorded those final hours. It will be later this morning before we know and can post that audio here. I fear we allowed ourselves to be lulled by the activity in the legislature and assumed they'd wrap up before the witching hour.

Problems with House audio - RESOLVED

We're having some problems with our audio feed from the House. We had to reboot a server around 10:26 a.m. and it has not come back up. Our techs are working on the problem. We'll update here.

Lost live audio stream on Monday. Archives are complete

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday, we lost our connection to the Internet and didn't recover until around 9:00 p.m. last night. Which means our audio encoders went down and subscribers were unable to get House and Senate debate audio (from us). Most of you jumped over to pick the feed from the state.

We do have all of yesterdays debate archived if there's something you need to hear.

Late night caught us leaning the wrong way

The House didn't adjourn from Wednesday's session until 12:42 a.m. this morning. Unfortunately, our audio encoders were set to go until midnight, so we missed the final 42 minutes.

We've made the necessary adjustment for the remainder of the session.

I'm pleased to report that our IT folks were able to recover the audio files from Wednesday (3/12/08) and we now have them in our archives for your listening enjoyment.

Problems with audio server

As you are probably aware, we are battling server problems this after and this site has been up and down. Your patience is appreciated. Our hard-working IT guys are working hard to resolve this problem. If we can keep this site up, we'll post updates here. If this site goes down again, we'll post updates on the Missourinet blog.

Senate called back in session at 8 p.m.

Senate Majority Floor Charlie Shields (R-St. Joseph) has called the Missouri Senate back into session at 8 p.m. with no indication when the chamber will adjourn.

Majority Republicans are growing impatient with minority Democrats' slow-down efforts on Gubernatorial appointments. Democrats are upset that Republicans, who cut off debate and forced votes on partisan legislation last year, have not satisfactorily negotiated a new way to allow the Senate tradition of free and fair debate to go on for extended periods of time in efforts to force compromises. Republicans say the filibusters by Democrats have often been dilatory and have impeded passage of needed legislation.

The slowdown began last Thursday when the appointments were first brought up. Two nominees were confirmed then. Three were confirmed yesterday. Demcoratic Senators discussed for two hours this morning the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer of the interim St.Louis Board of Education.

Fortunately is was very brief and procedural but we hate dropping the ball. The techs are checking and testing we hope to have this taken care of before Monday afternoon.

Despite all preparation and sound-checks, we missed the first 25 minutes of the opening session in the House (no problem on the Senate side). We're checking to see if The Missourinet reporters recorded the portion we missed, and will add a link here if/when we get our hands on it. Here's the run-down on opening day:

Problem with audio stream from House - RESOLVED

We are streaming audio from the Senate chamber but not from the House. We're wrestling with a last-minute encoder problem and have the techs working feverishly to resolve. Yes, we did run a test. A couple of them. And all systems were go. We'll post an update here when we get the House audio online.

UPDATE: We have found/fixed our problem. Audio now streaming from Senate and House. Thanks for your patience.
